First Minister Alex Salmond dropped into Spark HQ yesterday to mark two important milestones for the business. June has seen us pass the 100,000 active customer mark for the first time and secure a further £200,000 of funding from the Scottish Investment Bank.
This latest tranche of investment takes total support from the organisation to £855,000. Spark plan to use the new funding to fuel further growth which will see turnover rise from £88.5 million to £115.7 million in the financial year 2014/15.
Mr Salmond, in Selkirk for a meeting of his cabinet, said: "The success of Spark Energy is excellent news for the Borders. I am delighted that, through the Scottish Investment Bank, we have been able to provide £200,000 to support the continued growth of the company".
Spark CEO Chris Gauld said: "As we develop and grow we're hoping to expand the business into new areas, such as broadband provision. We're also investing in mobile apps and Live Chat to further improve customer service"
He went on to add: "We have plans which will be implemented across the course of 2014, carving out our market niche as not just specialist energy provider, but the leading technology innovator in the rental sector".
