Spark Energy makes key additions to its senior team as CEO Gauld forecasts impressive figures to come
Aug 13, 2015 by Spark Energy
Spark Energy, the Borders-based niche gas and electricity provider to the UK lettings market, has added to its leadership team with three key appointments as it approaches a crucial stage in its growth.
The new members of the senior staff at the Selkirk headquartered company are continuous improvement director Callum McCosh, energy services director Steve Storey and commercial director Ian Crowther.
McCosh and Storey are steeped in the energy supply industry, and have held a number of senior posts in two members of the so-called Big Six energy providers. Crowther joins from the offshore sector.
The trio completes a strong leadership team of seven, the others being CEO Chris Gauld, chief finance officer Hamish Osborn, director of customer experience Scott Mackay and director of people and culture John Hawkins.
CEO Gauld said: “I couldn’t be more pleased at the strength of my senior team, and Callum, Steve and Ian add their very specific talents to the mix - completing the jigsaw of capabilities we need to tackle the next stage of our growth as we approach the 250,000 customer meter mark, which puts us into a whole new area of energy company obligations. We must be ready for that important step and that is the reason for these appointments.
“We are now close to 300 staff, and are about to recruit again substantially, not just in the important area of customer service, but also in more developers for our crucial IT area, which will soon see the unveiling of our app.
“I’m confident that our audited figures, due in late autumn, will show a third year of clear profit, and a substantial increase in turnover.”
McCosh joins from ScottishPower, where he was head of market planning and measurement, tasked with developing new commercial and operational processes which increased customer numbers, leading to substantial additional profitability per annum. He previously designed and implemented the supply chain for ScottishPower’s energy services operation and energy company obligation.
Storey was recruited from Scottish & Southern Energy, where he was head of strategy for its energy services business. Previously as head of installations he had full responsibility for SSE’s domestic installation business for energy services. Before SSE he spent many years at Sky Television, where he was latterly head of operational improvements for TV, broadband and telephony, responsible for identifying and driving improvements in Sky’s core products - improving customer satisfaction to 72%.
Crowther joins from outwith the sector, being formerly sales and marketing director at subsea wireless instrumentation company WFS Technologies, where he was responsible for the development and delivery of WFS's global sales and marketing strategy in the offshore oil, gas and renewables industries.
Previously he was business development director at imaging solutions companies 3D Engineering Services and Kestrel 3D, where he led European expansion, and earlier Linn Products, where he was responsible for business in the superyacht and automotive industries.
