20 Bright Sparks Graduate From The Academy

Twenty residents of the Borders are celebrating after becoming the inaugural graduates of Spark Energy’s newly opened training academy as the company continues its recruitment drive.
The Spark Academy, the independent energy suppliers’ in-house training centre, was officially launched by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon as Spark Energy announced it was creating 69 jobs.
The twenty account managers, who all live within 10-miles of Spark Energy will form part of the company’s expanding customer services department, handling enquires in its Contact Centre.
As a fast-growth business with a commitment to constant improvement of the customer experience and to its base in the Scottish Borders, Spark requires access to well-trained new employees and to the ongoing improvement of the skills of those already employed.
Through its new Academy, the company is meeting this challenge with in-house delivered training and development, as well as links with local and national skills and employment programmes. The Academy also provides facilities for ongoing job-specific and career-long training for the current team at Spark.
Training and coaching in the new on-site academy will be conducted by an award winning training team, some of whom are accredited by the Institute of Customer Services (ICS), the leading industry body with whom Spark has worked since 2014.
John Hawkins, Spark Energy’s director of people and culture said: “Congratulations to each of the twenty employees who have successfully completed their induction training in the Spark Academy.

The Academy was set up by Spark’s Director of People and Culture John Hawkins to deliver company-wide skills development such as:
- 15 coaches who have completed an ICS accredited coaching qualification with a further 15 completing the course later this year.
- 27 employees working towards ICS Communications & Solutions qualifications this year
- 150+ employees having attending ICS “First Impressions” and ICS “Service Management” courses, both of which were initially supported by Scottish Enterprise.
